Cleaning Tattoo
- Our artist here use second skin/ Saniderm to wrap and cover tattoos. You should leave this protective layer on for 48-72 hours. If water gets underneath the wrap or any itching/ uncomfortability arises, remove the plastic and clean with antibacterial soap. Dry your tattoo with a clean paper towel by patting, do not wipe your tattoo. As this can lead to irritation. Please allow up to 20 minutes for your tattoo to dry before you apply any ointment.
Applying Ointment
- Apply ointment such as A+D cream, Aquaphor, or other specialized tattoo healing products. Massage a very small amount into the skin to ensure the entire tattoo is hydrated, but DO NOT apply a thick layer. If the tattoo appears to be shiny you have applied too much. Your main focus for healing is CLEAN and DRY! Ointment should be applied no more than twice a day or if there is excessive scabbing or itching. You will have to repeat the cleaning process daily for the next 1-2 weeks.
Healing and Peeling
- During the first 2 weeks of the healing process you should avoid long periods of time in sunlight and water. Swimming in the pool or ocean is not recommended for proper healing during this time.
At this time your tattoo is considered an open wound and should be treated as such. Any activities that can affect the skin should be avoided.
As healing begins your tattoo will scab up, create flakes, and may even create small cracks. This is perfectly normal. Use your ointment to sooth and soften these effects. DO NOT pick at the scabs/flakes , removing them too early can result in removal of ink/color and will result in fading of the tattoo.
Consequence
- Following all instructions given will result in a healthy healing tattoo.
- Not following these instructions or engaging in activities such as swimming, tanning, removing wrap too early, poor hygiene , and any other disregard for overall cleanliness can ruin your tattoo and/or lead to infections.
If you suspect an infection has developed please seek medical attention immediately as untreated tattoo infections have very serious consequences.
Your tattoo artist is not held responsible for negative healing consequences.
